Even though I wasn't able to win NaNoWriMo this year, I believe that the benefits of participating really are showing.
Before writing this year's NaNo, I wasn't ever really motivated to write. Sure, I participated last year and got a measley 10000 words. So the fact that this year, I have gotten to 30728 - it's mindblowing! And I'm positive that next year, I will perform so much better, because there's a slight learning curve to adjust to the pace, right?
I mean, it is a little saddening that I wasn't able to finish, because I really did have a good start. But after the first week, work just kicked in, and it sucked.
I'm really glad that I participated, though. There's nothing really similar to this experience of trying to write 50000 words in one month. And, truthfully, it's not even that big of a task. Next year, maybe I can even go above and beyond!
Who knows.
Just as a note to myself, I believe my best pace this year was 1600 some words in 30 minutes. A sprint, yes, but that's almost 50 word per minute!
If only that was consistent. I would have been able to finish the whole challenge in 1000 minutes, or 16 some hours.

A really good benefit of participating this year, and writing fanfiction, is that now I feel so inspired to write. I have a ton of ideas for more DMHG, and I have the beginnings of various one shots and possibly longer fics.
It's nice.
And despite the fact that I'm no longer obliged to write every day, today I pulled up Scrivener and typed out a bit. Not excessive, only under 200 words, but hey, every little word counts.

And that it what I've learned from participating in National Novel Writing Month.

Time to copy this onto my CAS form... just kidding!
